Our trailer

Where we went

We firstly asked to take a camera from the media study and how to use it. We then went behind the mansion where there were football goals and recreated a goal and celebration. We then went next to the pool were we shot are next scene on phone instead of camera and then came back to the media study to utilise the green screen. At the end we tried to edit it but we did not have enough time to finish editing. I hope we get to have the opportunity to do it again.

 1 Analyse how camerawork is used in the extract to create meaning. Refer to at least two examples from the extract in your answer. (5 marks) 

One way camerawork is used in the extract is the framing. This is because you have a child in between the parents. This gives a sense of protection of the child and that he is vulnerable. This is emphasised when he is playing with his toys with the mother, while the father is talking to the senior police officers. 

Another way camerawork is used in the extract is the flashes between the police officers. This happens when chasing the women who has just stolen some goods, we see every aspect of all the police officer of trying to track this women down. This is emphasised when all the police officers are running after her and are about to catch her. 

2. Analyse how far the extract creates a humorous view of policing. In your answer you must:

• analyse aspects of the extract using examples to support your analysis

• make judgements and draw conclusions about how far these aspects create a humorous view of policing. (10 marks) 

Example of how to answer on camerawork:

•   sweeping aerial shot of Brighton pier connoting a glamorous seaside location

•   bird’s eye view of the small police car driving through

  the streets of Brighton on a call-out, carrying connotations such as danger, excitement, and urgency

•   the use of an over-the-shoulder shot of the beach sign, as we arrive at the sign at the same time as the police officer, connoting surprise and anticipation of what is to come

•   slow pan / track of the new recruit police officers as they are introduced to the audience connoting authority and power

•   high angle long shot of the beach scene showing the police officer outnumbered by the group of men on the stag do

•   any other relevant analysis 

• The extract mostly depicts a humorous view of policing. The narrative follows two police officers as they have most of the screen time, the criminals are on screen for much less time, and one of them is the main leader and tries to teach the other police officer how to be a better police, while the other officer is new and trying to get his first arrest against this criminal, lets just say things didn't got to plan. The criminal falsely accused the police officer of harassment and then had the audacity to flirt with him at the police station. To many people, I may think they will find this humorous. The narrative is mostly about the relationship between the police characters, especially that between the hard-boiled older officer and the younger rookie and the emotions that this creates is funny as we get to see the insecurity of the younger officer, which comes across of him being vulnerable and child like, which connotes humour.  They are shot low down in the frame, sometimes with a high angle shot whereas the criminals have no characterisation other than an easily read stereotype of the criminal such as female, working class and angry. 

• In conclusion, the policing comes across very humorous because of the difference between the goofy, innocent rookie and the old chief cop, who have many difference and challenges along the way, especially for the rookie which entertains the audience and and has many funny and laughable things within the show.

Uses and gratification audiences gain from the media

 

Media Homework

 

Blumler and Katz argued that there are many uses and gratifications that audiences gain from the media and these make the media successful. Social integration and entertainment are two types of uses and gratifications.

It allows players to re-experience entertaining aspects of the original film, such as its humour and silliness. As players work their way up the levels they can feel the satisfaction of becoming a good player.

Video games offer social interaction as many multiplayer games enable a worldwide community of players to come together in the game and communicate with each other. Many gamers use online forums to discuss games with fans. The Lego Movie Game is not a multiplayer game, but it does offer a set of characters that the audience already knows that they can interact with, this can give (especially young children) them a sense of belonging as if they are a member of a real community.

Contrasting music videos

 

Music videos use media language such as the use of colour to create different effects to fit the meaning of the song and the musician’s image. I got you and slow hands use very different post-production techniques. Slow hands have been in the editing process to create a monochrome effect. This effect helps to support the serious narrative that is being explored. In contrast, I got you has a highly up beat look, where colours have been highlighted in editing, to create a more vibrant look that fits with the up-beat, fun song.

Comparison of media language in MOJO and We Love Pop

The layout of MOJO is very compact with not much space and is fulfilling the whole page which connotes (=has associations of) that it is aimed at younger children By contrast, the layout of We Love Pop is not for the elderly which connotes this is aimed at younger kids and teenagers

The typography of MOJO is very bold and stands out which connotes (=has associations of) that it is a happy book and is trying to catch the younger audiences attention By contrast, the  typography of We Love Pop is loud which connotes happiness and attention

The layout of MOJO is more spaced out which connotes (=has associations of) that it is not as bright as the Pop magazine as that is aimed at younger people so mojo is aimed at older people By contrast, the layout of We Love Pop is different to mojo which connotes the age gaps between the magazines

Being able to escape from real-life injustice is a major reason police procedural have become so popular. This intrigues people and viewers who like genres that can be realistic but not at all times which has a mixture of fantasy and real life.
