bullet points that shows your grasp of The Observer's messages and values

PREP Carefully study the Candidate answer and make a blog post with bullet points that shows your grasp of The Observer's messages and values as shown in the online edition above.

  • The online observer has a sense of duty to the reader and the community showing their values and beliefs which are more socially liberal
  • It reflects the belief of importance of different things e.g politics, adverts, hard news, soft news
  • represents the observers interest on internationalism

  • Includes different cultures and ethnicities to represent that the Observer has diversity, compared to back in the 60s where it was predominantly a white male.
  • although it is careful, it mentions things some people may not want to hear (the hard truth)
  • involves informative information for all ages aiming for a widespread audience
  • keeps up with top news going on eg covid19
  • includes online and offline information as well as images of all type of people and all races

  1. You are very much on the right lines here and have applied well what you revised in the lesson. You are right to observe that it tackles tough topics, reflects liberal values. Be sure to emphasise
    1. Hard news is priority as The Observer is a serious newspaper with readers interested in politics, economics
    2. It values culture also, offering readers a wide range to reflect diverse interests
